【emoo 離家的人】 by Naa’u娜塢

i′emo mngoi ta emoo, o’a isis′a kuzoa na iachisi emoo

i’emo micu saasmoyxskx, o’a las′a o′te yxesx

i’emo yaa to′hxngxa, o’a las′a o’te ngohexngex

i′emo yaa emisia, upena honci uhnenu teec’o meelx biemisi

lac’o yonto iachi hupa ho tiseiti o′la cocoeconx ci cou

hola homeyaya, tato noteuyunu ho ′aveoveoyx to ba’e ton′u

teto yu’ti′eopx ho maikuyungu ho tohpxngx

Christmas Eve, 2024, was a cold one…

Returning home from a gathering, I played the album On the Way of Naa’u. My mind drifted back many years to an album by the Spanish band Las Escarlatinas, Al Galope. Despite the completely different languages and styles, I felt a familiar, moving resonance, like a long-awaited reunion. Perhaps because I didn’t understand the language, I was able to set aside the meaning of the lyrics and listen purely to the melody.

I replayed one song in particular: its melody felt like a cool autumn breeze—gentle and slightly shy. “Whispering” or “murmuring” doesn’t quite capture it; rather, it felt as though she was calmly telling a story I couldn’t yet understand… So, I looked up the lyrics, and this is what she said:

The one who leaves home does not do so out of a lack of love for home. The one who is mature is not one who never weeps. The one who has dreams is not one who never feels fear. The one who has roots can take root anywhere. The hunter hunts upon their own hunting grounds. When the millet is harvested, we gather to thank the Millet Goddess for her grace. Let us join hands, form a circle, and offer our praise! No matter where you are, No matter where you are, Just remember to keep breathing steadily, and all will be well.

I believe there truly is a kind of resonance that transcends language and text… wouldn’t you agree?

On Christmas Eve, beyond the traditional carols, there is a voice from Naa’u—extraordinary in its perceived simplicity—that allows a heart of translucent warmth to linger within the cold air.
